Amsterdam by night
The green and gold neon signs in the center of Amsterdam, Camus was so impressed by in “The Fall”, are mostly gone. But the glow is still here. And the mist. One day it was so dense, your hand disappeared in it, if you extended your arm.
It was one of the days when you walked lightly, as everything around you was floating, and the golden glow of steamed café windows looked so inviting, you just had to extend your arm and open the door. And then you surely wouldn’t remember how you got home or why the shoelaces of your empty shoes were still tied.
It may have snowed this year in March, or it may have snowed 8 years ago, you don’t recall which one it is. When it rains, you sometimes go out on your balcony to watch it, and it’s almost like a storm in the open sea. Sea is what all of these buildings should have been, but aren’t. You look at your wristwatch, it’s 04:13, what do these numbers mean is not exactly clear.
